3CX Session Border Controller

3CX requires a 'Session Border Controller' (or SBC) to connect multiple desktop phones in a single location to the 3CX server.

The SBC provides a reliable connection to handle multiple phone calls, plus it enables us to configure the phones remotely.

It may be necessary to provide an SBC for a single desktop phone used in a location with an unreliable or domestic internet connection e.g. a home office.

Usually we issue the 3CX SBC as a Raspberry Pi computer as these are compact - it will most likely look like one of these:

                         

They each need a power supply and a wired network connection. Sometimes these can be powered by PoE (Power over Ethernet) - if this is the case, we will provide a PoE splitter.

Sometimes, for bigger installs with more desktop phones in a single location, we may work with an IT department to install the SBC software on a local PC or server.
